Texas USA The American Livebearer Association (ALA) and Houston Livebearers Association (HLA) jointly announce the ALA’ s 2008 Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas, May 1- 4!

San Antonio has been selected as the site to take advantage of South Texas’ mild spring climate affording hobbyists from around the world opportunities to collect fish in the wild. We are offering two fantastic collecting trips (Coleto Creek and San Marcos River), which features wild mollies, cichlids, killies, rare Gambusia, and aquatic plants.
Also scheduled are tours of a working livebearer fish hatchery and the Xiphophorus Genetic Stock Center at Texas State University. Don’t miss this chance to see rare and unusual live-bearers being propagated.”

The ALA Convention, to take place at the Hilton-San Antonio Airport, has been expanded to 4 days in order to offer tours, collecting trips, expert guest speakers with slides; a multi-class competitive fish show with beautiful and exotic livebearers; an all-day auction of fish and dry goods; and a vendor and manufacturer exposition.

Speakers will include Leona C. Hazlewood of the XGSC, Dr. Dave Schleser, Ivan Dibble of England, Duncan Hughes-Phillips of England, Arcadio Valdes Gonzalez of Mexico, and John Boylan of California. Additionally, there will be panels of Texas ichthyologists discussing their research efforts and fish breeders providing useful information concerning fish breeding systems.

17 Ohio Cichlid EXTRAVAGANZA 2006
Marc DeWerth
4402120896
Ohio USA We would like to let everyone know that the OCA is celebrating over 20 years of promoting our beloved cichlid hobby. This is why the Ohio Cichlid Association is very proud to offer the 12th annual Ohio Cichlid EXTRAVAGANZA 2006 . The official dates of this event will be November 17, 18, & 19, 2006 at the Strongsville Holiday Inn Select conveniently located at the I-71, Route 82 exit just minutes from the Ohio Turnpike and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. We appreciate all the support everyone has contributed over the last 9 years to make the EXTRAVAGANZA one of the country's premier cichlid events. Attendee's come from all over the Country and Canada and even England. Expected attendance this year could top 300 people. We the Ohio Cichlid Association promise to make the 2006 Extravaganza weekend a fun filled AFFORDABLE weekend that you and your family can enjoy. A printable registration form , auction rules , show rules , show classes as well as event schedules are all available at our website located at www.ohiocichlid.com.

The OCA has done a fantastic job lining up a slew world class speakers for the 2006 Extravaganza. They include Ad Konings, Juan Miguel Artigas Azas, Charlie Grimes, Don Danko, and catfish expert Ian Fuller.

The cichlid and scavenger show will have 29 classes. The show is ACA and FAAS sanctioned. There will be CASH awards for first, second, and third place. Best of Show will receive a $100.00 cash award and a hand carved trophy by Del Calhoun. The cost per entry will be $2.50 apiece.

We are planning a very special pre registration package this year. For only $25.00 per person, you can get full registration to everything, an Extravaganza 2006 T-shirt, and automatic entry to win one of the 40 special door prizes that will be offered including a large aquarium. To take advantage of this GREAT deal, you must be pre registered by NO LATER than November 1st, 2006. Not interested in a T-shirt or the Door Prize Raffle, early registration will be $15.00 per person if received by no later than November 15th, 2006. Anytime after that and at the door it's $20.00 per person to register. We hope to see all of you take advantage of the Convention Early Registration Package . I know I will.

The Strongsville Holiday Inn Select has once again offered us an unbelievable low room rate of $65.00 per night (up to four people per room). You can book you reservation by either calling the hotel direct at 1-440-238-8800 extension 283 or 1-800-HOLIDAY. Be sure to ask for the Ohio Cichlid Association room rate.

I'm hoping that this year's EXTRAVAGANZA will surpass all others in attendance, show entries, and just plain fun. With your help, we should have no problem attaining our goals. Thanks for the continued support!

You may also pre-pay through our on-line secure transaction facility (this will open a new window with an address in the digitalpacific.com.au domain; note: the security certificate for this site is not signed by any recognised authority). Fill in your credit card details, simply choose the "Other" option from the "Membership Costs" drop-down, and add your convention-related details in the "Comments" section. Attendees will also be able to register and pay on the day of the convention.

A limited number of rooms at the Crowne Plaza Hotel have been reserved by the organising committee, and rates have been confirmed for the accommodation. The rooms are $120AUD per night including complimentary breakfast. Interconnecting rooms are available at a different rate. These discounted rates will be honoured for those wanting to come early or stay late, pending availability. You can check out the rooms at http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/DRWMS/welcome.

Booking your room can be done by phone, fax or email but you must mention the block code "ANG" in order to receive the special discounted rate. To book by phone, simply dial (08) 8901 0704 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am and 5pm [Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) is equal to Greenwich Mean Time plus 9 1/2 hours (GMT +9 1/2)]. If you are doing your booking from outside Australia you will need to include the country code, which is 61. To book your room by fax, simply fax your booking to (08) 8980 0838. Or, if you prefer, email your booking to groups.nt@ichotelsgroup.com. Please note that you will need to provide credit card details to reserve your room and that emailing this information is not secure.

Since this will be the peak tourist season, rooms will fill up and sell out quickly. Obviously this is an ideal time to take a holiday in the NT, and some information is provided at www.travelnt.com.

We will have a wide range of speakers, as per our normal standards, and the weekend will be very relaxing. We are currently looking at various options for the traditional Saturday night dinner. Please check out our site for the latest news and updates - http://www.angfa.org.au/news.html

29 50th Anniversary Chicago Killie Show
Scott Davis
708-747-5913
IL USA The Chicago killie group is holding their 50th anniversary killifish show this weekend, March 29 - 30, 2008.

The featured speaker will be Jaap-Jan de Greef, just back from the Peruvian Amazon. Jaap-Jan, who may be even better known to live-bearer and cichlid enthusiasts, will give a couple of presentations Saturday about collecting killies and we will try a Q&A session Sunday while the auction is being set up.

Also in addition to the box sales of killies Saturday morning and early afternoon and the 11 AM Sunday auction, a plant vendor will set up on Saturday. And we will also have a live food table, where starters may be picked up inexpensively.

The plant guy (Cory from http://bayleesfishees.com) will arrange a plant sale table. He was at a show sponsored by the Michiana club about a month ago and everyone was quite impressed by the quality of his stock. Since it is a killie show, he was asked to emphasize low and moderate light plants.

The Sunday auction time is designed to let guests from down state and several other states leave for home in a timely manner, probably by 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Auction splits for anyone who brings killies, plants, live food cultures or aquarium gear are 70% to the seller. We are also importing a box of quite rare killies from Netherlands. Some of them you may only have seen in the books.

It is an open show. If anyone has a pair of killies or a big old stud and would like to see how they would do in a competition, the entry fee of a dollar is pretty nominal and has been the same for three decades. Small tanks and treated water are provided. One can bring their own water if they prefer.

The weather will be cool to unpleasant this weekend. It should be pretty nice inside the Downers Grove Holiday Inn Express, on Butterfield, just east of I-355. Saturdays and weekends can be amazingly busy, but it would be great to meet some of you.
